The hottest day ever

If you’re anything like me, you spent most this long weekend huddled by a fan, inside an air-conditioned movie theater, or in search of ice cream -- trying desperately to find any way to escape this sweltering heat. With almost no success. 

From San Francisco’s all-time high of 106 degrees, to a record breaking 114 degrees in San Luis Obispo, to 108 and 109-degree heat in Fresno and Bakersfield respectively, Californians across the state were feeling intense temperatures not seen since Calvin Coolidge was President. 

And though one hot day, one unbearable weekend, or one extreme wildfire is hardly caused by climate change alone, 2016 was the hottest year ever recorded -- and 2017 is on track to take a close second. This growing pattern of extreme and unpredictable weather, worsening wildfires, and intensified storms is the certain outcome of a warming planet. We cannot afford to delay action. 

Right now, our legislature is considering critical new legislation to transition our state to 100% clean, renewable energy. It’s our boldest step yet in California’s leadership to stop climate change.

It’s never been more critical that as Californians we continue to do our part and step up to protect our environment. By passing SB 100, our state will establish bold new standards to accelerate our transition to 100% renewable energy: 50% by 2026, 60% by 2030 and 100% by 2045. That means cleaner air, cleaner water, and overall healthier communities from Humboldt to San Diego.

Transitioning to 100% renewable energy isn’t just a bold idea, it’s necessary if we want to put an end to the rapidly growing climate change, extreme weather, and climate pollutants in our air. In the end, it's how California can beat the heat:
